ANRA changes name

Screen Shot 2015-06-12 at 10.19.13 AMThe Australian National Retailers’ Association has changed its name to the Retail Council.

Retail Council CEO, Anna McPhee, said the organisation continues to be driven to achieve sustainable growth of retail in Australia for the benefit of the consumer, the industry, and the economy.

“I am pleased to launch the Retail Council today. I believe this will strengthen the organisation’s objective to advance retail in Australia. A strong retail sector reflects and sustains a strong economy. This is important because as a top ten contributor to GDP and Australia’s largest private sector employer, retail is a key driver of economic growth,” McPhee said.

“The time is right to re-energise the organisation’s direction. Our commitment to work with stakeholders to contribute to the development and support of public policy, lift productivity, grow jobs, promote competition and strengthen the sector’s contribution remains the same and I am looking forward to continuing our work with our stakeholders.”

As part of its new configuration, Peter Birtles, MD and CEO of Super Retail Group has been elected to to the position of chair of the Retail Council board.

“There is a substantial opportunity for the retail sector to deliver sustainable growth, support job creation, and boost productivity and economic growth. I believe the Retail Council is best positioned to support the development of public policy for the retail sector that meets these objectives,” said Birtles.

To mark its renaming, the Retail Council is hosting the Women in Retail Business and Leadership Seminar Series, which will run from July to November.

The series is open to women in manager positions, leadership roles, or with leadership potential across the retail industry, in all capacities including operations, supply chain, technology, finance, HR, sales, and marketing.
