Woolworths appoints liquor MD

Woolworthssign_2Woolworths has appointed a new MD of its liquor division.

Acting director of Woolworth’s Liquor Division, Martin Smith, has been named as the group’s MD, according to Fairfax Media. Smith was appointed to the interim position from his previous role as GM of Dan Murphy’s last month as part of a management reshuffle by the supermarket group following Tjeerd Jegen’s resignation.

Woolworths’ former head of its liquor, Brad Banducci, was elected as Woolworths’ new MD of food and liquor following Jegen’s departure, and David Chambers, who had been MD Woolworths’ New Zealand Countdown chain for the last four years, was named director of supermarkets.

“Our liquor business is the undisputed market leader and the best example of innovation in Australian retail and Brad Banducci and his team have furthered that success,” Woolworths CEO, Grant O’Brien, said in February.
