The Heritage cheese factory opens

cheeseThe largest specialist cheese factory in the southern hemisphere has opened in Tasmania.

The Heritage cheese factory, run by food and beverage company Lion at Burnie on the state’s northwest coast, has undergone a $150 million expansion which was officially unveiled on Wednesday.

Annual production at the new plant will more than double to 26,000 tonnes.

The cheese industry is worth more than $350 million a year to Tasmania.
