#CafeSmart coffee drive helps fund homeless

cafesmart

Over 550 cafes across Australia have joined StreetSmart Australia’s national campaign #cafesmart to help fund local homeless services.

StreetSmart’s cafe partners will donate $1 per coffee sold today.

“We ask coffee drinkers to visit participating cafes and ‘drink coffee do good’ or donate the value of a coffee,” said StreetSmart, who support local, grassroots community projects aimed at helping people experiencing homelessness or at risk.

In 2015, the CafeSmart scheme raised almost $150,000 for community projects that help the homeless. Thousand of coffee drinkers, 491 cafes and 27 coffee roasters helped the CafeSmart scheme raise the fund.

In 2003 Adam Robinson founded up StreetSmart Australia, based on a UK organisation that has the same name. Robinson aimed break down prejudices about homelessness and raise funds for local organisations that could help connect the homeless to their community.

“These smaller organisations are embedded in local communities and deliver critical and often innovative response to community needs,” said StreetSmart.
