New player enters Aussie online alcohol market

liquor2Refined Spirits has opened its website to the Australian public this week, one of a growing number of retailers looking to tap into the burgeoning online alcohol market Down Under.

Established in 2016 by Eunice Moore, Refined Spirits’ range includes ultra-premium cognac, imported liqueurs, as well as highly regarded Scotch and Irish whiskies.

This puts it firmly in line with current consumption trends in Australia, which reveal the growing popularity of high-end spirits and craft beer, even as per capita alcohol consumption is on the decline.

According to IBIS senior industry analyst, Andrew Ledovskikh, this trend is fueling the multiplication of online alcohol retailers, whose numbers have jumped 20 per cent over the past five years, and driving up sales at a compound annualised growth rate (CAGR) of 11 per cent.

Online alcohol sales are expected to continue growing eight per cent CAGR over the next five years to FY 2020/21.

Refined Spirits stocks global and niche brands, including Rémy Martin, Louis XIII, Bruichladdich, Cointreau, Disaronno, Mount Gay Rum, Sierra Tequila, Tia Maria and Żubrówka.

“We treat each acquisition as an experience for the consumer – memorable, pleasing and recapturable,” Refined Spirits’ owner Eunice Moore said.

“The consumer is the most important factor in this business. We want to provide the type of service each consumer is entitled to receive,” she added.

For this reason, Refined Spirits offers free delivery on every order in Australia. To mark its opening, the company is including a boutique gift bag with every order for a limited time.
