Vinomofo and Aus Post ink same-day deal
Online wine disruptor Vinomofo is making the next move in its quest to establish its offer alongside mainstay competitors Coles and Woolworths, pulling the trigger on a same-day wine delivery program that will bring its offer in line with major competitors.
Under the new offer, which is being executed in partnership with Australia Post, the pure-play wine retailer’s 500,000 strong customer base will get same-day wine deliveries in metro areas across Australia before Christmas as an express service.
Standard delivery will be next-day in Melbourne and two-days in Sydney, fulfilled out of the company’s Port Melbourne DC.
Customisable delivery will also be offered, which will provide customers with the ability to select a specific day and time for delivery, including weekends and evenings.
The move will bring Vinomofo’s offer in line with that of competitor Dan Murphy’s in offering customisable and same-day options, while also providing it with an edge over Dan’s 2-4 day standard delivery offer.
“The speed of our standard delivery will vastly improve, as will the visibility,” Vinomofo co-founder and joint CEO Andre Eikmeier told Inside FMCG.
“Our ‘mofos’ have had to put up with some pretty average delivery experiences. We felt slightly ashamed of that, to be honest. For a company that prides itself on customer experience, that was a weak point,” he continued.
Shipping fees are still being finalised, but Eikmeier said that the $9 flat rate charge on all orders will be changed in the future, with different prices for customers in different locations.
Options being discussed include free shipping for loyal customers, and an Amazon Prime like fee for a year’s worth of free shipping.
Vinomofo’s delivery move comes as supermarket giant Woolies prepares to invest heavily in on-demand delivery services, including expanding in-store click-and-collect nationwide.
