Marley Spoon to deliver Christmas-in-a-box as demand for meal kits grow
The $249 meal kit includes ingredients and recipes to prepare a full menu of starters, sides, mains and dessert for six people.
Both existing customers and non-subscribers can order a Christmas Box online from 13 November – 15 December. The meal kit is delivered on 23 December.
“The festive season can so often be stressful, fun but stressful. It seemed obvious that people should be able to benefit from a Marley Spoon cooking experience for Christmas!” said Dave Malcolm, co-founder of Marley Spoon Australia.
Founded in Berlin in 2014, Marley Spoon launched in Australia in 2015. It has continued to expand operations nationally, recently signing a new lease on a production and storage facility in Melbourne’s inner west.
The business committed to a five-year term on a 6,079-square-metre facility in Altona North, which features a warehouse, cool room and corporate office, according to a statement from CBRE. It is Marley Spoon’s second fulfilment centre in Australia, where its customer acquisition and retention rates outpace the industry average, according to co-founder, Rolf Weber.
“In order to keep up with this demand, a second fulfilment centre was needed.”
Weber said the location of the facility in Victoria will allow Marley Spoon to reduce the food miles involved in getting finished goods to customers and bring it closer to local growers and suppliers, reducing food miles at the beginning of the supply chain as well.
“Victoria is now the second largest customer base for us when comparing the Australian states … Opening up production in Victoria also gives us the opportunity to increase our delivery options for customers there,” he said.
Marley Spoon is growing outside Victoria as well. In mid-November, it will reach approximately 75 per cent of Australian households, as it opens up in South Australia and Tasmania.
“We are continuing on our fast growth trajectory by offering superior choice to our customers and extending our geographical reach as well as growing fast in our current delivery areas,” Weber said.
