Clonakilty Blackpudding hits Aussie shelves

Clonakilty BlackpuddingHailing from Ireland, Clonakilty Blackpudding has recently hit the Australian supermarkets.

Particularly on-trend amongst Australian chefs for its nose-to-tail and economical ethos, black pudding is becoming a must-have ingredient and is extending far beyond the traditional breakfast menu.

Dishes such as blackpudding, mud crab, apple purée and pancetta salad; blackpudding, blue cheese and caramelised onion crepes and blackpudding, wild mushroom, smoked bacon and barley risotto are setting consumer curiosity alight.

“Clonakilty’s Blackpudding has a rich, deep flavour that goes hand-in-hand with its heritage. Using a secret blend of spices and steel-cut oats to give the produce its unique taste, crumby texture and distinctive flavour, the black pudding pairs beautifully with an array of fish, meat and vegetable based dishes,” said Colette Twomey, owner and MD of Clonakilty Food Co.

As well as traditional blackpudding, similar blood sausages are served across the world – French ‘boudin noir’ and Spanish ‘morcilla’ being two well-known examples.

“Blackpudding is increasingly being used to add richness of flavour in the same way that consumers might more typically cook with chorizo,” Colette continued.

Clonakilty products are available at Woolworths, IGA’s, grocers, delis and butchers nationwide.
