Woolies bakes new Brioche-style hot cross buns

Woolies BriocheWoolworths has announced that their customers will be able to satisfy their hot cross bun cravings as the Easter staple hops on to its bakery shelves with an-all new Brioche style version added to the range this year.

The supermarket giant said Australians devoured 72 million hot cross buns last year alone and they’re seeing a 20 per cent year on year increase.

“We know the countdown is on for our customers for hot cross buns as soon as Christmas is over. The wait is now over and it’s the perfect time to get your hands on a lovingly baked hot cross bun at Woolworths,” Woolworths bakery manager, Ben Thompson said. “We sold almost ten million hot cross buns in January alone last year and are proud to be able to offer our customers with a range of tasty hot cross bun goodness again to start the new year off right.”

While traditional buns remain the favourite accounting close to 70 per cent of sales, non-traditional varieties grow in popularity each year and Woolies bakers have been working tirelessly over the last couple of months to come up with a new range.

“We are very excited to introduce a mouth-watering new Brioche Style Hot Cross Bun with Fruit this year.  Available in a six pack for $3.50, it offers a decadent twist on the traditional bun. Making a great breakfast or afternoon snack, toasted or fresh, topped or on their own, it is no surprise that hot cross buns are an Aussie family favourite,” added Thompson.

Varieties available from Tuesday, 2 January 2018 include:

  • NEW Woolworths Brioche Style Hot Cross Bun with Fruit 6 pack, $3.50
  • Woolworths Traditional Hot Cross Bun 6 pack, $3.50
  • Woolworths Fruitless Hot Cross Bun 6 pack, $3.50
  • Woolworths Mini Cadbury Chocolate Chip Hot Cross Bun 9 pack, $3.50
