PepsiCo pledges $1m for victims of Typhoon Florence

PepsiCo2Soft drinks giant PepsiCo’s foundation is donating $1 million to relief organisations and 350,000 meals to American communities impacted by the recent Typhoon Florence in the US.

“Our focus is on ensuring that relief agencies have the resources they need to help those impacted by [Typhoon] Florence,” said Jon Banner, president, PepsiCo Foundation and EVP, Communications.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families, frontline responders and rescue workers in the Southeast. The PepsiCo team will help families in the path of this storm and be there to support communities in its aftermath.”

Outgoing PepsiCo head Indra Nooyi tweeted about the soft drinks giant’s plans to assist at the birthplace of Pepsi in North Carolina, as well as South CarolinaGeorgiaTennessee and Virginia. PepsiCo has several employees affected by the typhoon.

The PepsiCo Foundation said in a statement it will be pledging two $500,000 grants to the American Red Cross and The Salvation Army. Its nutrition operation Food for Good will also provide at least 350,000 nutritious meals to families in affected areas.

The soft drinks giant will be allocating help to support the local authorities and disaster relief agencies marshal. The Foundation’s relief support will be allocated to the affected communities including New Bern, North Carolina.
