Pod & Parcel introduces compostable coffee pods

Pod & ParcelMelbourne-based coffee company Pod & Parcel has unveiled its biodegradable and compostable coffee pod gift packs just in time for Christmas.

The company offers six different specialty bean varieties to choose from or all six can be enjoyed in a sample gift pack.

Pod & Parcel pods are made from corn starch and sugar cane composite which means they break down in roughly the same amount of time it takes an orange peel to break down in commercial compost. Normal pods can take up to 500 years to decompose.

The Minipresso includes two of the company’s popular blends with 20 pods (one pack of Calexte and one pack of Fasoli blends). It is Nespresso compatible, portable and ideal for for camping and travelling. It sells at RRP A$88.

The Pod & Parcel Sampler Pack contains 60 eco-friendly, Nespresso compatible pods with specialty coffee. It sells at RRP A$57. It also offers Individual Pod Packets with six different flavours available. It contains 10 pods per pack and is Nespresso compatible; biodegradable and compostable.

The new Pod & Parcel pods are available at specialty coffee stores and online.

Earlier this week, Nestle’s Nespresso announced plans to make all its coffee capsules sustainable by 2020. The coffee giant struck a deal with mining giant Rio Tinto which will supply aluminum for the capsules produced through renewable power.
