Walmart uses iconic movie cars to promote online grocery pickup

RIDGECREST, UNITED STATES – APRIL 13, 2014: Walmart store in Ridgecrest, California. Walmart is a retail corporation with 8,970 locations and revenue of US$ 469 billion (FY 2013).

Walmart storeUS retail giant Walmart unveiled its new online Grocery Pickup service during the Golden Globe Awards on NBC at the weekend.

The new ad features classic movie cars driving up to the Walmart Grocery Pickup and a Walmart associate loading the customer’s trunk with groceries.

“We not only picked “famous cars” from iconic movies we knew would be instantly recognisable to our customers – and launched the campaign during one of the film industry’s most popular awards shows – but we also worked with a variety of different Hollywood studios to gain access to these vehicles,” said Barbara Messing, chief marketing officer, Walmart US.

“This helped ensure the famous cars looked just like what our customers knew from the films, while demonstrating the ease, speed and convenience of the service – and that it’s for everyone, regardless of what car you drive.”

The movie cars lineup includes the Batmobile, the DeLorean from Back to the Future, Scooby Doo’s Mystery Machine and the yellow VW Beetle from Bumblebee as the music “Cars” from Gary Numan is played in the background.
