Woolworths reveals plans to introduce halal range

woolworthsAustralian supermarket Woolworths is tapping into the needs of its consumers with plans to meet demand for Halal food products in certain parts of Sydney.

Later this year the supermarket intends to launch its own range of Halal chicken in a select group of stores in Sydney.

The supermarket is aiming to diversify its grocery range to meet the needs of an increasingly multicultural customer base.

“Later this year we’ll introduce a new range of Halal certified chicken in around 20 Sydney stores, where there is high local demand for the product,” a Woolworths spokesperson told Inside FMCG.

“We also offer Kosher chicken in a dozen Sydney and Melbourne stores with significant local Jewish populations. Our existing range of poultry products will continue to be available for our customers in all stores across Australia.”

The new range called Al Sadiq meaning truthful, will be developed and produced in Queensland in close consultation with the Islamic Council of Queensland who will also provide the certification.
