Poll: Time to ditch plastic packaging on fresh produce?
A group of supermarkets in New Zealand has made quite the impact on customers after a decision to cut the use of plastic bags and packaging from fruit and vegetables.
The NZ Herald reported that sales of some vegetables increase by up to 300 per cent and has resulted in very positive feedback from customers.
The “food in the nude” project, pioneered by the New World store at Bishopdale in Christchurch, is part of the war against plastic which has seen many supermarkets in New Zealand commit to ensuring all plastic packaging be reused, recycled or composted by 2025.
New World is also trialing an initiative encouraging customers to bring their own containers for meat and seafood. Today we’re asking, do you think it’s time supermarkets and other food retailers ditched plastic bags and packaging on fresh produce?
