Former PepsiCo chief executive officer Indra Nooyi has this week joined online retail giant Amazon as a director, and will be part of the audit committee of the board.
Nooyi is the second woman to join the board this month, following Starbucks Corp’s chief operating officer Rosalind Brewer.
Last year Amazon adopted a new policy to increase diversity in the business. The board now has 11 members, five of which are female.
Nooyi stepped down as CEO of PepsiCo last year and early this left her role as chairman of the FMCG giant.
Many took to Twitter to express their delight and confidence in Nooyi stepping into this new role with one user describing her as a “smart and tough CEO”.
