Amazon scraps Dash buttons

Amazon Tide Dash ButtonE-commerce giant Amazon has scrapped its Dash buttons as consumers turn to other methods to buy products, CNET has reported.

The Dash button allows consumers to reorder products such as dishwasher tablets or pet food, with one click of a button.

Daniel Rausch, Amazon vice president, helped build the Dash program which was released in the market in 2015, when there was less connected home gadgets. The e-commerce giant was experimenting on ways “to make shopping disappear” for the staple household products.

“Dash button was an awesome stepping stone into the world of connected home. We never imagined a future where customers had 500 buttons in their home. We imagined a future where the home was taking care of itself, including replenishing everyday items that customers would rather not worry about,” Raush told Cnet.

Amazon created virtual Dash buttons on its website and developed voice shopping through its Alexa voice assistant. In January 2019, a Germany banned Dash Buttons as they violated consumer law.
