Philip Morris announces new leadership roles

Cigarette giant Philip Morris announced new leadership roles on Tuesday to further enhance business growth.

The new roles include chief consumer officer (CCO), chief life sciences officer (CLSO), chief product officer (CPO) and chief new ventures officer (CNVO).

Stefano Volpetti is the new CCO to lead in the consumer market as he addresses legal age smokers to drive; new trends and market insights; product and brand portfolio architecture and consumer communications to channel strategy. Dr. John O’Mullane will be the new CLSO to lead on innovation and R&D in consumer healthcare categories. He will handle new products and services beyond tobacco and nicotine.

“Since the launch of our smoke-free product, IQOS, in 2014, we have made enormous progress both in terms of organisational capabilities, know-how and in our business results,” said André Calantzopoulos, Philip Morris CEO.

“With IQOS commercialised in 47 markets today, we are extremely proud of what has been achieved to date, including two recent milestones: realising 10 million users and the US FDA authorisation to commercialise this smoke-free alternative in the US. To accelerate, we must further enhance our ability to stay at the forefront of technology, science and consumer centricity.”

The four new leadership roles will directly report to Calantzopoulos as part of the tobacco maker’s Senior Management Team. Three of them will take over the current Philip Morris president for Science & Innovation Mirek Zielinski as he moves onto becoming the new chief new ventures officer.
