Coles opened first in-store food hall

Coles supermarket at Tooronga Village in Melbourne’s south-east has unveiled a new food hall with the help of independent retailers. Customers can choose from fresh, healthy meals at a restaurant and cafe, or grab a fresh on-the-go option from the retailer’s largest convenience selection. Coles head of convenience Louis Eggar said, “Our new food hall concept is all about making life easier for our customers by solving the problem of what to eat – for everyone, any time of the day.”

CSIRO and Jack Cowin back plant based meat

Australia’s latest plant-based meat start-up, v2 Food, launched this week, with the support of national science agency CSIRO’s Main Sequence Ventures and Jack Cowin’s Competitive Foods. The alternative meat market is predicted to be worth A$6 billion dollar by 2030. Former Masterfoods and PepsiCo research director, Nick Hazell, will lead the business. Cowin’s Competitive Foods Australia, contributed seed funding to help launch the startup.

Lion XXXX welcomes back Mr Fourex

Queensland Brewery XXXX has released a new limited edition gold beer can to celebrate the cricket this summer with the help of its famous mascot, Mr Fourex. He dons the cricket whites on the limited-edition cans and takes six different cricketing poses. Mr Fourex has featured in XXXX ads since XXXX BITTER was unveiled in 1924. XXXX brand director Amy Darvill said the summer campaign was inspired by the golden age of the sport.

Woolworths and Qantas overhauled rewards partnership

Woolworths and Qantas have overhauled their rewards partnership, answering customer’s feedback for a “simpler, faster and more rewarding” service. Consumers have been earning rewards at Woolworths, BIG W, BWS and select Caltex and Caltex Woolworths. Shoppers can now earn 15 per cent more on points than before.

Cadbury classics take ice cream form with Peters

Chocolate brand Cadbury has teamed up with ice cream brand Peters on frozen treats for summer. The first range includes Cadbury’s classics, Picnic, Crunchie and Freddo frog, on sticks with two flavours, Vanilla & Chocolate and Strawberry & Vanilla. While the Freddo Party Cake is a triple-layered ice cream cake decorated with Freddo heads.
