Coles launches airport click-and-collect
Coles is introducing a new airport locker service which allows customers to order away from home and collect their groceries when they touch down at Melbourne Airport.
The Click&Collect smart locker at Terminal 4 is the first to be opened outside of a Coles Express or Coles Supermarket location, and aims to provide a more convenient solution to weary travellers.
The free service, which launches this week, allows customers to choose from three pick-up windows, with refrigerated lockers designed to keep goods fresh until collection.
More than 100,000 people and 20,000 workers pass through Melbourne Airport every day, making it the second busiest airport in Australia.
Coles Online general manager Karen Donaldson said the smart locker is about making customers’ lives easier by offering an “anytime, anywhere shopping experience”.
“Our new Click&Collect service at Melbourne Airport helps take the stress out of choosing what’s for dinner after a relaxing holiday or business trip,” Donaldson said.
The retailer now has over a thousand click-and-collect locations around Australia and is the fastest growing channel for online.
Heavy investment in online this year is already beginning to pay off for the grocery retailer, with sales growth of 30 per cent for Coles Online in FY19.
A partnership with the world’s leading online grocery platform, Ocado, is expected to double Coles’ home delivery capacity in Australia by the end of the 2023 financial year. While Coles on Ebay now offers a range of fresh and frozen goods alongside pre-packed fresh food, pantry, personal care, and household items to the e-commerce giant’s 11 million monthly users.
NAB’s online retail sales index indicates the channel is only gaining momentum, with an 8.3 per cent increase in online shopping between August 2018 and August 2019.
The airport lockers are located next to a future hotel and commercial precinct to be launched next year.
