Hilton Foods opens $280 million meat production facility

Meat packing business Hilton Foods Australia has officially unveiled a $280m state-of-the-art meat production facility in Heathwood, Queensland.

The new facility will produce the finished fresh meat products for more than 450 Woolworths stores as part of its national supply partnership with the supermarket giant.

The implementation of new technology to packing processes will improve stock availability across more hours of trade. Hilton Foods Australia CEO Pat McEntee said it will ultimately allow for a faster and fresher supply.

“We value our partnership with Woolworths and look forward to assisting in developing a faster and fresher supply of high quality meat and value added products,” he said.

Heathwood will deliver more than 1500 tonnes of fresh red meat to Woolworths stores each week, alongside its existing meat processing facilities in Melbourne and Perth.

“It’s really pleasing to see our long term supply relationship with Hilton Foods Australia underpin this important new investment and job creation in Queensland,” Woolworths director of fresh food Paul Harker said in a statement on Friday.

“The opening of this state of the art facility in Heathwood will help us deliver a consistently great fresh meat offer and improved stock availability for our Queensland customers.”

The site features Australia’s second largest rooftop photovoltaic solar installation, providing about half of the site’s energy needs.

The facility will provide ongoing employment to around 650 people.
