Danone bagged award at Woolworths’ Supplier of the Year awards

Food company Danone won the top prize at Woolworths’ annual Supplier of the Year Awards in Sydney this week. It took home the Overall Supplier of the Year, Chilled, Bakery and Deli awards. Woolworths Supermarkets managing director Claire Peters praised Danone for above the market growth in a competitive environment. Siggi’s Yoghurt and Darrell Lea’s block chocolate won Product of the Year awards; P&G was named the Large Supply Partner of the Year and BioPak took home the Sustainability Supplier of the Year award.

Lion bought major US craft brewer

Beverage company Lion sealed a deal to buy US craft brewery business, New Belgium Brewing. New Belgium Brewing creates beer and wood-aged sours such as Fat Tire Amber Ale and Voodoo Ranger IPA. Lion CEO Stuart Irvine said the new deal is a milestone in the international expansion beyond Australia, New Zealand and Japan.

First David Jones BP opened in Melbourne

Retailers David Jones and BP opened their first store collaboration in Melbourne this week. The new 24-hour high-end convenience store sells over 400 products including pre-prepared meals and groceries from David Jones Food’s exclusive range. It will utilise BP’s expertise in the convenience sector with self-service checkouts and ample parking.

Froyo Robotics acquired Amatil’s Lumi

Soft serve vending company Froyo Robotics has acquired Coca-Cola Amatil’s dairy-free brand Lumi to add to its Reis and Irvys robotic soft serve businesses in Australia. CCA’s Perfect Fruit Company will manufacture and distribute the fruit-based soft serves. Lumi self-serve machines will be placed in restaurants, convenience, hospitals, theme parks, entertainment centres and universities. The new owner also plans to expand them in schools, airports, malls and grow the brand internationally.

Vegemite sends Christmas care packages abroad

Aussie favourite Vegemite will have ‘Mitey Aussie Care Packages’ available for shipping to the US, UK and Canada this Christmas. The packages include personalised jars and Vegemite & Arnott’s Cheese Shapes. It’s the first time Vegemite will ship the products outside Australia and New Zealand. There are four different packs available including the Mitey Aussie Care Package in Women’s and Men’s; the Mitey Aussie BBQ Set; the Mitey Aussie Summer Set and the Happy Little Vegemite Xmas Set.
