Supermarket Woolworths and the International Cricket Council (ICC) are celebrating the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup with a limited release $2 coin.
The Royal Australian Mint created a special coin featuring a female cricket player. Two million $2 Australian legal tender coins were released through Woolworths registers this week.
Woolworths Supermarkets managing director, Claire Peters said the retailer is committed to supporting Australian sport.
“We hope the release of $2 limited edition ICC Women’s T20 World Cup coin will be a keepsake for our customers to show their support for our world leading female cricket team as they defend their title on home soil,” she said.
Australian wicketkeeper and two-time T20 Player of the Year recipient, Alyssa Healy said it’s “so exciting” to see a coin that features a female cricketer go into circulation for the very first time.
“2020 is a big year for Aussie women in sport, in fact cricket for girls and women is the fastest growing area of Australian Cricket and ensuring this number continues to rise is a subject that’s very close to my heart,” she said.
The Royal Australian Mint also released a limited-edition collectors album, with a $3 coin. It is available exclusively at Woolworths; T20 Official Merchandise Outlets at T20 World Cup matches and online.
