Coles takes advantage of Easter fever with Hot Cross Bun Popcorn

Supermarket giant Coles is capitalising on the success of its hot cross buns with the introduction of a limited edition hot cross bun-flavoured popcorn.

Coles Hot Cross Bun Popcorn is made with Australian kettle-popped popcorn using the flavour profile of the traditional bun, sprinkled with cinnamon and spice seasoning.

“The popularity of popcorn is increasingly rising in Australia, and globally there are already more than one third of consumers in the UK buying popcorn. Our research shows that our customers are ‘flavour curious’ and want to try new snacks,” Coles grocery product developer Elizabeth Babic said.

“Coles’ hot cross buns are award-winning and we know customers just can’t get enough of them so it’s the perfect mashup to shake up the snacking aisle with something they’ve never had before.”

Babic said the supermarket has seen double digit growth in popcorn over the last 12 months as consumers seek lighter snacking options.

Coles hot cross buns have been on sale since Boxing Day 2019 and 27 million of them have been sold nationally since then.

Coles original hot cross buns were voted among the top buns in the country by consumer group CHOICE.
