Aldi announces further expansion in South Australia

Discount grocer Aldi has opened its latest store in South Australia and revealed plans for further expansion in 2020.

Wednesday’s store opening is the first this year and brings the total store count in the state to 34, since it launched four years ago.

Five more stores are set to open this year in Clovelly Park, Findon, Mawson Lakes, Norwood and Plympton with more expected in the future.

“Every year, our impact on South Australia becomes more significant as our store network grows. Our focus in 2020 is to continue to support local communities through new store openings, employment and food charity partnerships. We look forward to a successful year of growth in the state which sees even more South Australians save on their grocery shop,” said Viktor Jakupec, managing director of South Australia, Aldi Australia.

Aldi said South Australian shoppers are supportive of locally grown and made products. The retailer said it has partnered with local business and growers, to supply SA grown apples, carrots, broccolini and mandarins; pasta and confectionery.

Aldi now employs 652 people between its stores, SA head office and distribution centre and in 2018 the retailer reportedly contributed over A$168 million to the South Australian economy.
