At a time when snack bars are flying off the shelves of supermarkets, Coles welcomes a new range to stores.
KOJA Natural Peanut Butter Bars brings a fresh focus on health, with the range free from preservatives, emulsifiers, artificial sweeteners, stabilisers, or additives.
The company said the snack bars, which come in three flavours including Choc Chip Crunch, Peanut Caramel and Chocolate, are low in sugar, protein rich, vegan and gluten free.
Choc Chip Crunch contains organic activated buckwheat kernels, chia seeds
and cacao nibs with organic rice malt syrup and coconut sugar.
Peanut Caramel has a peanut and cashew butter base with roasted peanuts and organic rice malt syrup for a smooth fudge texture.
While the Chocolate bar is made with smooth, rich organic dark chocolate mixed with local peanut butter and has 75 per cent less sugar compared to the other natural snack bars.
KOJA founder Kate Johansson said that there was a serious lack of awareness for basic nutrition in the supplements industry and found that consumers are confused by conflicting health information.
“While an increasing number of products are touted as low or no sugar, it’s important to remember all sweeteners including natural dates, dried fruits and honeys are still sugar,” Johansson said.
“The health ramifications of sugar are well known, however many people do not make the same connection to natural sugars, which still have the same effect on your body; spiking blood sugar levels, contributing to weight gain and creating energy peaks and crashes.”
Johansson began making KOJA products with the goal to educate people on their nutrition and the benefits of real food.
“I hope by creating delicious and healthy snacks that are a ‘no brainer’ – easy to understand, no hidden ingredients, nasties or excess sugar – that people can give their body the energy it needs to get on with enjoying life instead of stressing over their diet,” she added.
KOJA Natural Peanut Butter Bars will be available in Coles stores nationwide from March 30.
