Supermarket giant Woolworths has moved production of its own brand nappy range, Little One’s, from China to Australia.

The Newborn, Infant and Junior sizes are now manufactured at Ontex Australia’s Eastern Creek factory in Sydney. Ontex is set to produce over 185 million nappies at the facility each year for the Australian and New Zealand market.

“As a proudly Australian brand, we are big supporters of Australian manufacturing and producers and we’re thrilled to relaunch Little One’s so customers can rely on a new and improved nappy, produced right here in Australia, for the same affordable price,” said Woolworths FoodCo managing director Guy Brent said.

Ontex Australia director Rod Evans said Woolworths’ support “greatly assists in the ongoing viability of our local business, provides employment opportunities and helps nurture the well-being of Aussie families”.

Online grocery ramps up to deal with high demand in Melbourne

Since the resurgence of panic buying in Melbourne, Woolworths has moved to strengthen its online grocery delivery and in-store pick up in the state. It meets the demand of 40 per cent lift in online stores over the last week.

Woolies said it is adding dozens of new trucks to join its current fleet of more than 200 Victorian vehicles and hundreds of couriers, including Sherpa and Drive Yello.

“We know this is an uncertain time for many Melbournians, and we’re moving quickly to make our online shopping services available to more customers than ever before. Together with our on-demand courier partners, we can fulfill thousands of extra orders each week to help support the essential grocery needs of more Victorian customers online,” Woolworths director of e-commerce Annette Karantoni said.

Its Priority Assistance service is still in place offering online delivery for the elderly; people with a disability; immunity and mandatory self-isolation.

On Wednesday, the supermarket giant reinstated purchase limits on select products to quell panic buying. The supermarket giant saw “elevated demand” earlier this week and is currently monitoring the situation.
