Australian mineral water brand Calm & Stormy has introduced an alternative option to single-use plastic bottles with its aluminium can packaging.
The company believes aluminium cans are the most sustainable packaging format as the material does not degrade. According to Troy McKinna, co-founder of Calm & Stormy, the packaging contains 70-per-cent recycled content.
“A red lid in a batch of clear plastic in the recycling process is like washing your whites with a red sock, it taints everything,” said McKinna.

“I’ve noticed a significant increase in people’s awareness of the issue,” said Murray Raeburn, co-founder of Calm & Stormy. “I’m inspired to see Australians taking action, as they seek out more sustainable alternatives.”
The brand is also a member of the 1% for the Planet organisation, committing 1 per cent of Calm & Stormy’s gross sales to the fight to reduce ocean plastic waste.
Calm & Stormy mineral water is sourced from a dormant volcano situated in Victoria’s Central Highlands. The brand also offers a natural juice-infused mineral water range.
“After becoming more aware of the negative impacts of sugar and plastic, we left the corporate world on a quest to do things better, creating drinks that are better for you and better for the planet,” said Raeburn.
