Vending machine company pivots to PPE offer

Queensland company Now Retail Group is launching Australia’s first vending machine for health products, named Health Pod.

The company known for its electronics-vending machines has pivoted to offer mobile hygiene and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including tissues, hand sanitiser, face masks and headache tablets. The Health Pod kiosks are available at Brisbane International Airport and Melbourne.

“We added the Health Pod offering to help people in the current climate,” said Joey Curts, GM at Now Retail Group. “Customers are responding because we offer them peace of mind when they travel and move about and venues are promoting public health and safety.”

The company is negotiating to take its Health Pod kiosks to major airports, transit centres, convention centres and shopping centres.

“Some venues in the hotel industry are interested as Health Pods can be installed in foyers and even on each floor,” Joey said.

According to Joey, the company has seen high demand for products from automated retail kiosks where customers don’t need to interact with a cashier.

“This has been a great way for us to reimagine our business, which relies heavily on foot traffic. With lockdowns in place, fewer people outdoors impacted us initially, but it provided the opportunity to create something new,” he said.
