Life Health Foods takes the meat out of pepperoni

Pepperoni-style slices can replace the real thing on pizzas.

Life Health Foods has augmented its Vegie Delights plant-based meat range with pepperoni-style slices, launching this month alongside revamped versions of its bacon-style rashers and Chicken-style slices.

Dean Epps, GM at Life Health Foods Australia, said the pepperoni-style slices were formulated with the sensory experience in mind.

“Our product development team, here on the Central Coast, NSW, spent months trialling and perfecting this new recipe and have landed on a formulation that looks and tastes just like the real thing. We’re also rapt to be delivering an easy-peel product, an attribute that has proven a huge challenge for many vegan deli slices, our own included in the past.”

Life Health Foods acquired the Vegie Delights brand from Sanitarium in 2014 and still produces Nutolene, which was launched in 1912.

The company says the pepperoni-style slices can be substitutes for the real thing on pizzas, home-cooked meals, or as part of a plant-based platter. They are packaged in recyclable trays with easy-peel wrapping, which has been applied across the rest of the Vegie Delights deli-style slices range.

All slices within the range are 100-per-cent vegan and Australian made. The range is fortified with essential nutrients such as Iron, Zinc and Vitamin B12 and contain no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives.

Pepperoni-style slices are sold in chillers at Woolworths stores and the full Deli-style Slices range will be available at Coles stores Australia-wide from this month.
