Liquor distributors merge to create nation’s second-largest wholesaler

Paramount Liquor and Liquid Specialty Beverages are to merge to create Australia’s largest independent liquor wholesale company.

The two family-owned businesses have been working closely together for years, with Paramount serving customers in Victoria, SA, NSW and the ACT, while Liquid has focused on the Northern Rivers of NSW through to Port Douglas in Far North Queensland.

The combined venture will serve more than 9000 on-premise customers across the eastern seaboard through its two warehousing facilities, covering about 90 per cent of the nation’s population.

Darren Terlich, director of Liquid, says the partnership between the Rowe family, which owns Paramount, and the Harch & Terlich families, who own Liquid, was a natural fit given their strong family legacies.

“Our family values and customer-service driven business models have always been aligned. When the opportunity arose to join forces with Paramount Liquor, we felt that it was the perfect time to make the move.”

The two companies will commence integration early next year and operate under the Paramount brand with a unified ordering portal, five distribution centres and a staff of around 400.

Nathan Rowe, director of Paramount, said the company had always been confident in its ability to deliver a best-in-class on-premise wholesale solution in our respective markets.

“However, with the evolution of the Paramount Liquor business over the past 24 months and the expansion of our offering into retail, we see this new venture together with Liquid as taking our customer-centric service offering to the next level.”
