Vegemite’s ‘ugly sweater’ might not suit every taste

Celebrating Christmas in mid winter offers Aussies a way to enjoy that rich English tradition of donning an ‘ugly sweater’ for those cringe-worthy family snaps.

Who can forget the sight of Colin Firth in Bridget Jones’ Diary, for example, celebrating Christmas Day in the chill December climate of the UK…?

Well, the marketing team at Bega has seized on an unlikely opportunity to encourage some of the ‘ugly-sweater’ culture on Aussies this month, with the launch of a limited-edition Vegemite jumper festooned with the famous spread’s logo.

However, Jacqui Roth, Vegemite’s marketing manager, doesn’t necessarily agree they’re ugly.

“We think they’re quite the opposite. What better way to pay homage to our beloved Vegemite, than to wear it proudly?”.

Fans of Vegemite can splurge $79.95 on a Vegemite ugly sweater online at the brand’s dedicated Mitey Merchandise store. Matching Mitey socks and a corduroy cap might help complete the look for the most dedicated of fans.

Bega is also running a promotion on Instagram this month giving three winners the chance to kit out their friends (or enemies) in matching jumpers.
