Woolworths reinstates customer limits to curb hoarding

(Source: supplied )

As supply chain delays continue to hit major supermarkets across Australia, Woolworths has reinstated product limits on certain lines that are selling out: in particular, toilet paper and painkillers.

The move is “precautionary”, according to the business, as it continues to grapple with logistical constraints brought on by the surging wave of Omicron cases which have caused many workers in key industries to isolate, and which is causing anxious Australians to consider panic buying once more.

“We understand this is an anxious time for our customers across the country, but we will remain open and operational as an essential service,” said Woolies’ director of stores Jeanette Fenske.

“We will continue to monitor product availability across our stores, with stock continuing to be sent to stores daily. Customers will notice some gaps on shelves, but we’re doing all we can to meet demand.”

Supermarket rival Coles has also seen stock availability delayed due to the massive amount of transport workers who, until earlier this week, were required to isolate after coming in contact with Covid-19 – positive or negative.

These rules have been relaxed over the course of the week, with Scott Morrison yesterday lifting isolation requirements across a number of essential industries.
