South Australian startup OMGhee introduces organic, lactose-free ghee

South Australia’s OMGhee wants to educate and inspire Australians about the health benefits of including ghee in their everyday diets, after launching Australia’s only organic biodynamic ghee.

Lisa Ormenyessy left her 20-year career as a business coach to follow her ‘joy’ and created OMGhee.

“Because it’s lactose-free, high in fat, low carbohydrate alternative to butter, and has a higher smoke point than traditional cooking oils, it is rapidly gaining popularity in the dairy-free, paleo, keto and general cooking communities,” she said.

It takes about six hours to melt butter into ghee. The solids containing milk proteins and lactose separate and evaporate leaving a liquid creamy product.

Ghee, which is a staple in Indian ayurvedic medicine for centuries, is a great alternative to butter or oil, according to Ormenyessy.

“The process requires total presence and intention. For me, it’s my great pause from the hustle and bustle. Some people meditate, I make ghee,” said Ormenyessy.

OMGhee is attracting the attention of ghee-loving foodies, health enthusiasts and food connoisseurs and is expected to become a must-have pantry item in Australia.
