Food rescue organisation, OzHarvest, is set to launch Refettorio OzHarvest Sydney – an Australian-first, social-impact collaboration with Food for Soul.
Refettorio OzHarvest Sydney is scheduled to open its doors to the public next Thursday (February 24). The kitchen will be co-run by renowned chef, Massimo Bottura, who is also behind the Food for Soul charity.
“This two-year project has finally come to fruition and it just could not have happened without the love, the generosity, the commitment, the collaboration of an extraordinary amount of people,” said Ronni Kahn AO, co-founder and CEO at OzHarvest.
Located on Crown Street in Surry Hills, the dining venue will serve about 100 meals a day, including takeaway options. Following the zero-waste philosophy, OzHarvest chefs will turn rescued ingredients into gourmet vegetarian meals. The menu will be changed weekly.
The space design features an elegant yet warm ambience, creating “a sense of belonging” with simple textures, natural materials and exposed finishes. According to Damian Donoghue, NSW construction manager of Woolworths, most of the materials that they bring in are sustainably sourced.
The restaurant will open from Tuesday to Friday weekly. It will also host special events, weekly dinners and be available for private hire.
