PepsiCo launches the world’s first-ever nitrogen-infused cola

(Source: Prnewswire)

In the US, beverage giant PepsiCo has unveiled a nitrogen-infused cola that it describes as “softer and creamier” than its original version.

Named Pepsi Nitro, the drink is designed to be served cold and ‘hard poured’ into a tall glass. The creamy texture of the beverage is made with the use of a unique widget placed at the bottom of the can, widget technology usually used in beers and coffee products.

Todd Kaplan, VP of marketing at Pepsi, said that heavy carbonation prevents people from enjoying ice-cold cola. “We believe Nitro Pepsi is a huge leap forward for the cola category and will redefine cola for years to come,” he added.

Available in the US in two flavours, Draft Cola and Vanilla Draft Cola, the beverage is sold in four-packs and single-serve cans. The product will be rolled out nationwide in the US next month. No word yet on its release in other markets, including Australia.
