Global food producer Danone’s Australian and New Zealand subsidiaries have been certified B Corp.

Independent certifier B Lab ensures companies can demonstrate verifiable positive impact through their policies and practices.

Scott Pettet, head of corporate affairs at Danone, said B Lab had set the bar very high for certification making the achievement very rewarding.

“Danone’s commitment to social progress has been a part of our DNA for decades and aligns with B Lab’s mission to transform the business to be a force for good,” he added.

Bart Houlahan, co-founder and CEO of B Lab Global added that the brand is now joining more than 4700 certified B Corporations worldwide. “The group has been a partner with us for many years, now it is using its profile to add credibility and accelerate the growth of its movement,” he said.

Andrew Davies, CEO at B Lab Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand, said Danone’s certification shows it is possible for big businesses to have a positive impact, to hold themselves accountable while focussing on the stakeholders it impacts, in all aspects of its value chain.

Across Australia and New Zealand, the brand sells nutrition products to support growth and development. Danone’s European parent company wants all of its business entities internationally to become B-Corp certified by 2025.
