Love Buds takes alt-meat to Meatstock barbecue festival

Alt-meat startup Love Buds will be making its debut as the first plant-based protein at Meatstock Australia.

The barbeque festival will feature dozens of meat-centric stalls, demonstrations and experts. Festival-goers will be able to sample and taste the brand’s plant-based burgers and Italian sausages.

A 45-minute blind tasting experience will have guests try either a plant or a meat burger before they have to vote on whether they like it or not. The goal is to prove to meat lovers that although Love Buds’ protein is not meat, it is not bad either.

Love Buds chief marketing officer Tom Dusseldorp said: “We are not trying to compete with meat but instead encourage meat lovers to rethink plant-based protein as simply another taste and texture option.”

Meatstock co-founder Jay Beaumont added that festival-goers are in for a ‘real treat’ and that it’s about time a plant-based protein is added to the festival.

The event was put on hold for two years due to the pandemic. It kicks off this weekend in Melbourne, followed by Toowoomba in April and Sydney in May.
