Metcash’s food pillar CEO Scott Marshall has stepped down from his position and is said to be leaving to “pursue another career opportunity”.

Marshall has been with the company for more than 30 years and has held several senior management positions, including CEO of the liquor pillar and five years as CEO of the food pillar.

After supporting the appointment and transition of Metcash’s new group CEO last year, he said it is the “right time” for him to seek career and personal growth.

Metcash group CEO Doug Jones said Marshall had left a valuable legacy that includes a strong management team and a “clear and winning” strategy that has seen the food pillar deliver exceptional results.

“Scott, together with his strong management team, has been instrumental in positioning the food pillar with an aligned and healthy retail network which, together with proven structures and systems, provides the right platform for continued success,” said Jones.

“The board and I thank Scott for his significant contribution to Metcash and wish him all the best for the future.”

Metcash is now in search of a new CEO for food. Marshall will stay with the company to support his successor’s transition, which is expected to commence by the end of June.
