Sabco has released a new line of products featuring exclusive artwork designed by members of the Jingo family from the Anangu community.
The Jingo product range includes an All-Purpose Cloth, Giant Microfibre Cloth, Non-Scratch Sponge Scourer, and Heavy-Duty Sponge Scourer.
The launch is part of Sabco’s Reconciliation Action Program (RAP), which aims to create better relationships and outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
Last year, the Sabco executive team visited Piralpakalarintja and met members of the Jingo family, facilitated by the Tjungu Project. This experience allowed the team to interact with the family and gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of Aboriginal culture.
Herman Verhofstadt, CEO of Sabco Australia, said the experience allowed the team to connect on a deeper level.
“The connection that we all experienced with the Jingo family was profound,” shared Verhofstadt.
“We all walked away with a new perspective that we can use to influence and create opportunity well beyond our company”.
Jingo family elder and artist Nyinku Jingo, who hosted the team, shared that the family believe it is important to protect the knowledge of their place through storytelling.
“Sharing our stories and culture is important to me and my family because of our Tjukuritja (Anangu ancestors) and Tjukurpa (the dreaming),” said Nyinku.
Together with her partner Anangu elder Cyril McKenzie, Nyinku created a series of eight original artworks, each one telling the story of how Sabco came and spent time with them and how they shared their Tjukurpa with the team.
“Being in my country and sharing my culture brings a good and true feeling in my spirit. This is about the future for my family, not just me,” added McKenzie.
The Sabco x Jingo product range is available in Woolworths stores nationwide. Five per cent of proceeds from sales from the new range would be donated to the Jingo family and the Anangu community.
