Cadbury’s Easter chocolates now come in sustainable packaging

Cadbury has reduced its plastic and cardboard packaging for its Hollow Hunting Eggs and Easter Gift Boxes sold in ANZ.

Cadbury has reduced its plastic and cardboard packaging for its Hollow Hunting Eggs and Easter Gift Boxes sold in Australia and New Zealand.

The company has switched from plastic crates to 12- and 24-pack cardboard boxes for the Hollow Hunting Eggs, saving 131,000kg of plastic. Additionally, the plastic blister and excess cardboard in some Easter Gift Boxes will be removed, saving more than 200,000kg of packaging.

Ben Wicks, VP of marketing for Mondelez International, said this is one of the biggest packaging changes the brand has made for its Easter range.

“Over the last two years, we have been working hard to re-design our packaging footprint, preserve the taste and quality of our Easter products, and deliver a positive change for Cadbury fans,” said Wicks.

“The move forms part of Mondelez International’s commitment to make its packaging better for people and planet, through reducing packaging, evolving packaging, and improving recycling systems.”

The company recently invested in Licella Holdings to progress one of the country’s first advanced recycling facilities. Licella will utilise its Catalytic Hydrothermal Reactor (Cat-HTR) technology to recycle soft plastic waste into crude oil and produce new food-grade plastic packaging.

Wicks added that despite the changes in packaging, consumers can rest assured that there are no changes to the brand’s familiar taste or quality.

“We remain dedicated to providing Australians the same delicious Cadbury experience this Easter, whether you’re hunting with family members or gifting one of our iconic Cadbury products to a loved one,” he concluded.

The Hollow Hunting Eggs and Easter Gift Box range with the new packaging will be introduced as part of Cadbury’s 2024 Easter range.
