Small Aussie skincare brand empowers African women and communities

Aussie plant-based skincare brand Just Shea was launched with the mission of finding a skincare solution that would moisturise and heal the its founder – Adama Kamara – nephew’s eczema. After lots of trail and error Adama settled on Shea Butter, a natural ingredient that had been used in her family for generations.

“Just Shea was an accidental business idea,” Adama (pictured) explains. “I rediscovered Shea Butter on a family holiday to West Africa. I loved how it felt on the skin and hair and the fact that it was natural. It worked so well during the trip, I brought back eight kilos with me!”

“My nephew suffers from eczema and we have been searching for a remedy that would soothe the symptoms but was also natural,” Adama adds. “During our trip I gave him Shea Butter to use and it worked on his skin. I continued experimenting with other oils when I returned from the holiday, making creams for family and friends.”

Adama founded her business in order to share with a wider audience the many natural skincare ingredients that are used in Africa – alongside Shea Butter the company’s products incorporate ingredients such as  Moringa Oil, Marula Oil, Baobab Oil and Kakadu Plum.

The brand’s flagship product is The Shea Body Balm, which is crafted from ethically-sourced Shea Butter and enriched with a blend of natural, nourishing ingredients that caters to a diverse range of skin needs. Adama is committed to responsible and sustainable sourcing practices, which not only benefit the environment but also support local communities and economies.
