Billson’s Brewery has entered voluntary administration, with owners explaining “mistakes” in business scaling have put the company’s systems under pressure.
Established in 1865 in Beechworth, Victoria, Billson’s Brewery is known for its ready-to-drink vodka, craft beer and cordial. The current owners, husband and wife Nathan and Felicity Cowan, bought the business in late 2017.
In an announcement via social media, the Cowans said they had made some “mistakes” along the seven-year journey, and that the company’s systems and processes could not keep up with its growth.
The couple has tried solving the problem during the past six months, including restructuring twice, but were not able to overcome the challenges they faced this year.
“We now believe this to be the necessary step for survival,” they said. “We will do everything possible to work through this so Billson’s can emerge more resilient as a business and ready to take on another century.
The brewery and its online store will remain in operation during the process, and its products will continue to be sold through bottle shops and venues across the country.
