Two of the world’s leading ingredient suppliers have entered into takeover discussions, as Tate & Lyle confirmed that US-based Ingredion has made an approach to acquire a majority stake.
Tate & Lyle said it received the $5.2 billion (US$3.7 billion) offer in a statement. According to UK law, where Tate & Lyle is based, it has until June 11 to respond.
“There can be no certainty that any offer will be made, nor as to the final terms on which any offer might be made,” Tate & Lyle said in a statement. “A further announcement will be made when appropriate.”
Known for its sweetener products, Tate & Lyle acquired chemical manufacturing company CP Kelco for $2.6 billion. The 2025 fiscal year saw $3.23 billion in revenue for Tate & Lyle
The two companies remain in discussion over the deal.
“The proposal follows a number of earlier approaches from Ingredion to the board regarding a possible offer for Tate & Lyle,” the company added.
