Consumers prefer Australian Made products, Roy Morgan finds

Australians prefer Australian Made products, according to research agency Roy Morgan’s latest study.

The company latest research found that 80 per cent of Australians want Australian Made food and beverages, 73 per cent want locally made children and baby care products, while 72 per cent prefer local for pet care.

“This important study found that the most important reasons for buying Australian Made products are better quality, supports local businesses/communities and supporting local job creation,” Roy Morgan chief executive officer Michele Levine explained.

Ben Lazzaro, chief executive of the Australian Made Campaign, said demand for authentic Aussie products is growing continuously.

“When you buy Australia Made, Australian Grown products, you know what you are getting — products made to the highest of manufacturing standards and grown in our clean, green environment. At the same time, you are helping to support local industry,” he said.

All locally made products feature the green and gold Australian Made logo on their packaging. Roy Morgan said that almost all Australians (99 per cent) were aware of the logo, with the vast majority of those (84 per cent) associating the logo with supporting local jobs and employment.

Over half of Australians also link the Australian Made Logo with high quality products (58 per cent) and are ethical labour (57 per cent).

“These environmental considerations, which are intrinsically linked to many Australian products, are continuing to be important to consumers when making purchasing decisions,” Lazzaro said.

The research company said consumers trust in the Australian Made logo remains strong, with 88 per cent of Australians confident that products displaying the logo were made or grown locally.
