Woolworths Group adds discount for bushfire volunteers

Woolworths Group is offering volunteer firefighters and emergency service workers a 10 per cent discount at its retail outlets as a sign of appreciation for their role in dealing with the bushfires.

The discount will be offered at Woolworths Supermarkets, Woolworths Metro, BIG W, Dan Murphy’s and BWS stores from today, Tuesday January 21, until January 31.

The discount applies to in-store items only and can be availed of by presenting Emergency Services identification.

Earlier this month Woolworths extended paid leave for rural fire service volunteers to four weeks.

“We are humbled and grateful to the volunteer firefighters and emergency service teams who have been risking their lives, in the thick of the bushfires, standing by communities to help them during this challenging period,” Woolworths Group CEO, Brad Banducci said.

“This discount offer is a gesture of our thank you to them for their tireless service all year round to the community. We hope they’ll be able to take full advantage of it across our entire Group of stores from now until the end of the month.”

The Woolworths Group has raised A$3.5 million dollars for The Salvation Army through the S.T.A.N.D program which helps Australians during national disasters and has also donated A$250,000 to animal welfare and rescue organisations, including surplus food for animals.

The Group also pledged A$200,000 in BIG W and Woolworths Supermarkets gift cards to schools in communities affected by bushfire.
