New Zealand’s premium pet food manufacturer Ziwi has sold its infant snackfood subsidiary Kiwigarden to Christchurch-based Pacific Lab Holdings.

Management says the move will allow Ziwi to focus on its core business of premium pet food and expand its export markets.

“Operating a small infant food business was a distraction from our core business, where there is so much global market potential,” said John Wiggins, former GM of Kiwigarden and current Ziwi GM for sales – Apac and Europe.

As a result of the sale, production will be relocated from Hawke’s Bay, leading to redundancies for most of the Kiwigarden workforce. However, some employees will be able to transition to roles at Ziwi.

“Pacific Lab Holdings is the new owner of Kiwigarden. As a specialist producer of infant food and dairy products, they are a great fit for Kiwigarden, and we are pleased for our consumers to see the brand continue,” said Wiggins.

The terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
