Best Aussie dairy produce named

cheeseWinners of the 2016 Dairy Industry Association of Australia’s (DIAA) Australian Dairy Product Competition have been announced.

The judges awarded 151 gold medals and 844 silver medals to dairy products from all over Australia.

Australia’s best cheese and the most outstanding show exhibit awards went to Emporium Selection Washed Rind, a cheese made for ALDI by Snow Brand Australia in Nowra, NSW.

Victoria’s Dooley’s Ice Cream won for the third year in a row, with most of Dooley’s products entered into the competition earning gold or silver medals.

Ferial Zekiman from the Maffra Cheese Company was awarded the title of Australia’s best cheesemaker, for Maffra Cloth Aged Cheddar.

The competition was first held in 1895 by one of the DIAA’s founding bodies, the Butter Factories’ Managers Association.

On  March 7-9 2016, more than 40 judges and stewards rated more than 1,000 entries in more than 100 categories at the DIAA national offices in Werribee, Victoria.

Gold medal winners are invited to enter Dairy Australia’s Australian Grand Dairy Awards.
