Deliveroo offering free education for riders

Deliveroo ridersDeliveroo is to offer its 6,000+ riders access to hundreds of online courses for free in a collaboration with Open Classrooms.

The short-term online courses will be available in English, French and Spanish and include design, IT, Marketing and Project Management. Access to this online learning course usually costs $30 per month.

The company also announced a Deliveroo Scholarship Scheme which will fund almost 100 scholarships per year giving people a chance to gain a bachelor’s degree from leading universities for free.

The Deliveroo scheme will support riders who have a clear desire to learn but who have not been able to access education elsewhere and who have a track record of working with the company. These are state-endorsed online Bachelor’s-level degree programmes which run for 12 months, and guarantee a job within their desired field within 6 months of completion of the course.

Commenting on the education programme, Deliveroo Australia General Manager, Levi Aron said the online courses suit the flexibility riders expect from working with Deliveroo.

“Lots of our riders are already currently students, but there are other riders who might not have that opportunity to study, or are working to another goal, who can benefit from this initiative,” Aron said.

On average, riders work with Deliveroo for fewer than 20 hours a week with many studying or attending a second job.
