Just Egg lands deal with Tim Hortons

Plant-based eggs are gaining momentum in the food industry with US company Just Egg sealing a deal this week with Canadian coffee chain Tim Hortons.

Just imitates the exact look, taste and texture of real eggs by using mung bean protein, turmeric and other vegan ingredients.

Tim Hortons which is owned by Restaurant Brands International began offering meat substitutes last year when it partnered with Beyond Meat to bring the Beyond Burger to its menu.

“Canada is one of the most requested markets for Just and we’re excited to be able to offer our product at select Tim Hortons locations for this market test,” Just spokesman Andrew Noyes.

“We are always listening to our guests and testing a wide variety of potential products in select restaurants across the country. As you know, we recently introduced our Beyond Meat breakfast sandwiches and Beyond Burger. As we continue to test and get feedback, we will consider expanding plant-based options into other menu items,” Tim Hortons spokeswoman Jane Almeida said.

Plant-based egg sales soared to US$6 million in the year ending April 2019, according to the Plant Based Foods Association.

Just has also sealed deals with restaurants such as Bareburger and Gregory’s Coffee. Its range is also available at grocery stores like Safeway and Whole Foods.
