Perfection Fresh buys banana marketing group

Perfection Fresh Australia has acquired sustainable banana business Pacific Coast Produce Marketing.

The acquisition includes licensing rights to The Red Tip Ecoganic banana which will join two other licensed varieties – Little Gem and Havana Bananas.

“The banana category has lacked innovation in Australia, and we plan to change that by bringing choice for consumers in terms of size, taste, sustainability and other attributes,” said Michael Simonetta, CEO at Perfection Fresh.

Ecoganic bananas, distinguished by their red-wax tip, are grown in a farming system designed to minimise the degradation and decline of reef and soil health.

MD of Pacific Coast Produce Marketing, Frank Sciacca, said the deal is a huge opportunity to grow the category and restore value to the bananas category.

“This acquisition is very much in line with our sustainability approach and gives us the opportunity to extend Ecoganic farming to other crops in our portfolio,” Sciacca said.
